Description

You will be able able to see this January 3rd at Spoke Art Gallery in San Fransisco for the Supersonic Electronic Invitational show
If you're around those parts stop by!!

This was by far one of the most challenging paintings I have ever done!
I used:

-Ink
-Pencil
-Acrylic
-Water-soluble wax pastel
-Water-soluble oil
-On Rives bfk paper.

I prefer using all water based mediums.
The drying time for water based mediums is substantially faster. Plus, you're not dealing with toxic materials.

I said this painting was very challenging, not so much the rendering (kinda of my standard process in that sense)
But it was challenging because of those shapes overlapping the figure.
Painting on paper has it's advantages and disadvantages. Making off those shapes with tape was almost imposable.
I had to constantly fix parts every time I pulled the tape off.
It would grab the pencil and paint underneath and rip it off. Even after spray fixing AND layering matte medium on top...very annoying.
Alas, I did get it to work, after hours of experimenting.

Also, I put a mild semi gloss coat over the whole finished piece to pop out the color a bit more.
I had an issue there because I used a ton of different mediums, each medium had a slightly different finish after I coated it with the semi gloss matte medium. It took a while to make the piece have a cohesive look.

I never shoot (photo) my painting, I always scan them. They just look so much better that way.
If you're going to spend days on a painting, you might as well take the time properly show it. Scanning always looks better to me.
I do this by tiling tiny scans of the entire piece.
My scanner is 8"x11", this piece is 27"x39".... sucks
Now, Photoshop has a photo-merge button but I find that it's not as accurate as I can be just taking my time and putting it together myself.
Although, I do desperately need a new scanner (any suggestions??)

NJote: If you photograph your paintings, please don't take offence to this, I'm just an awful photographer and don't have the proper equipment.
