So, as per usual I couldn't sleep last night. Got up up before the sun came up and started painting. I documented it on Instagram. I still need to put the finishing touches on it but it needs to dry first.
What you're seeing above is a loose painting to start off with. Then I made a grid on my cutting mat. After that, I used acrylic washes on top of the overlay film to tint the film different colors (red, yellow and blue). I cut the film up using the grid on my mat as my guide. I coated the painting with matte medium and began sticking the cut out shapes on top of the wet medium.
I primarily used the yellow and red shapes where you see her skin and used the blue for the background (and a bit over the skin too) I actually started to build up a value system using the different colors in different variations. Really cool stuff.
If you go to my instagram, I did another small piece using the left over colored film sheets. And I LOVE the way it tuned out. Very sporadic and abstract . I'm gonna shop around Brooklyn for the perfect frame for it. I'm thinking old wood frame with a crisp, warm/grey matte...
You're making me envious right now! But seriously sounds and looks great! And just to echo the words of others thanks for posting up the pictures; it's great to see an artist at work. It's like watching a chef cook wonderful cuisines in front of your eyes! Must smell great in your studio, so to speak.
